Privacy

In short

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies, does not build profiles of visitors, and does not sell or share personal information. Two things are recorded: anonymous visit counts, and any message you choose to send.

Visit counts

To learn which pages are read, the site adds one to a daily counter for each page, and records in general terms how a visit arrived (for example from a search engine or from another website) and what kind of device and browser was used. No cookie is set for this. To count each browser once a day, a scrambled code made from your connection and browser details is held for that day only and deleted at midnight; it cannot be turned back into your address and is not kept from one day to the next. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is counted.

Messages you send

If you use the contact form, the name, email address, subject and message you type are stored and emailed to the professor so a reply can be sent. Your connection address and browser name are stored with the message to help stop abuse, and a limit on how many messages one visitor can send is applied. Messages are used only to answer you.

Spam protection

The contact form may be protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks whether a visit looks automated. When it is switched on, Google receives some information about your browser and is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Your choices

Your light or dark theme preference is remembered in your own browser and is not sent to the website. You can ask to see or delete a message you sent by writing to the email address on the contact page.

Other websites

Links to journals, publishers, academic profiles and other sites lead away from this website; their own privacy policies apply there.
